SERBIA: INTERNET SAFETY – THE PROBLEM EXISTS
According to the Cesid’s research, there are about 1 million Internet users in Serbia. (aproxmatly13, 3 % of its population without Kosovo and Metohija). This number will grow rapidly. So will the problems caused by the Interne nature.
The origin of Internet safety problem lays in global network’s nature. The most important problems related with Internet safety are: Internet fraud, children safety, breaking copy right laws and computer safety.
Number of the Internet fraud is constantly in growth. Most common crime on the Internet is identity theft, which happens when another party somehow collects enough information about you to pose as you online or in other situations (for example using your credit card number without your knowledge or authorization).
Children position on the Internet is probably the most discussed matter connected with Internet safety. Using Internet children could access contents that are inconvenient for their age (pornography, violence…) or they could easily become victims of violent behavior and sexual abuse because Internet provides them communication with a lot of person they do not know.
What about copy right? With faster Internet the problem is even bigger. Internet is full of movies, music, books etc. which are posted with no author’s consent.
Being connected to the Internet can also harm your computer. Your computer is threatened by viruses, spy wares, hackers…
We want to show that problem of Internet safety exists. More internet users make this problem bigger, so in Serbia this problem is in expansion. There are not exact solutions for this problem. To solve this problem international cooperation between governments, police, internet providers, professors, parents etc. is needed. The best place to start discussion is Internet itself. Therefore we need your comments, experiences and ideas; we need to know about your awareness on this problem and what do you think what possible solutions are. Please help us to make Internet safer for us all.
